Ocean Salt Scrub by Lush

For Top Pick Tuesday I decided to continue on with my exfoliation theme!  In the quest to have smooth, glowing and soft skin we continue on with another favourite for body care.  Unlike our D.I.Y Coffee Scrub we actually have to spend money on this product but I can truly say it is worth ever penny!  9999902128

This Ocean Salt face and body scrub by Lush is an absolute favourite of mine!  I use this mostly for my body but occasionally use it on my face.  This scrub effectively clears all my dead skin with out irritating.  If you struggle with body acne at all this is a great product to use as it will clean out blocked pores, blackheads and blemishes.  I use this scrub about twice a week.  If you have sensitive skin and you find the scrub a bit coarse, just add some water to it while its in your hand.  Mix it around a little and then apply to your body.  This will help those salt particles dissolve a little before you set them to work on your skin.

This is another great good-for-you product that actually does work!  The cost ranges from 20$ to 35$ depending on the size you purchase.   Just one more step for exfoliating and a giant leap for gorgeous skin!

Let me know what you think about this scrub if you have already tried it! Thanks!

Pinterest Fail…or was it?

Top Pick Tuesday! Bare with me as I get to my point…

My mom celebrated a birthday the other weekend. One of her good friends decided to throw her a birthday party and I offered to bring something to contribute. I was given the task of making an appetizer for 14 of my mom’s friends who are also foodies. (Greeeeaaaat…I immediately regret my decision)

I searched through a few of my pinterest boards and settled on a hot caprese dip. “This is perfect” I thought! It incorporates hot cheese, basil, and fresh delicious tomatoes…some of my mom’s favorite foods and flavors. As a bonus I decided to make a balsamic syrup and would pick up fresh baguettes from a local bakery. Totally easy…or so I thought… Here is a picture of what the dip was supposed to look like. caprese dip I wish I captured a picture of what it ACTUALLY looked like. Instead I’ll just run through some of fails of that day:

1) The balsamic syrup never quite reduced to a syrup. Instead it was just a sweet balsamic vinegar

2) The “fresh and delicious” tomatoes made the dip so watery I poured 3 cups of water down the drain 20 minutes into baking.

3) The quick dip that should have taken 15 minutes to bake took 45. Think hungry people standing around.

4) The mozzarella cheese was so stringy that you needed a fork, spoon, and your friendly neighbor (not even kidding) to dish it onto your bread.

The only thing, and I mean ONLY thing that actually worked were the baguettes…that. i. bought. awesome.

BUUUTT the silver lining in the story is my top pick of the week.

I purchased 3 packages of fresh basil and ended up only using 1. What to do with the rest? I remembered reading about a tip on listotic.com of how you can freeze fresh herbs in olive oil and store them for future use. Guess what guys…it works!!! I chopped the basil, put them in an ice cube tray, filled the tray with olive oil and stuck it in the freezer. I used my first cube last night to make a curry dish and it worked fantastically! Now I have fresh basil to use while I’m cooking and I couldn’t be happier. I am so doing this in the spring and summer when I have my herb garden. Here is a picture to show you what it looks like from start to finish.

It’s so easy and rewarding. I encourage you all to try it!

It’s here! TOP Pick Tuesday!

Every Tuesday Chris or I will be posting our top pick of the week. The one thing that we are loving…actually obsessing over. It may be a product, a fashion tip, a quote, a DIY project, a yummy recipe, whatever.  I can’t promise that it will be something that you obsess over, but I can promise that whatever we post will be something we actually love. Something we have used, made, cooked, researched, or done ourselves. Happy Tuesday and enjoy my top pick!

If this eCard didn’t make you laugh, you either don’t have sense of humor or you haven’t turned 30.

Something happens when you turn 30. The best way I can explain it is by saying your body kind of rebels against you. Nothing is quite the same. Your workout makes you a little more sore, that extra glass of wine haunts you the next day, that extra cookie haunts you the next…forever!

I’ve always been the type of person that said fashion > comfort. “Buy those shoes! Who cares that you can only walk short distances in them! Buy that dress! Who cares that you have to stand the entire time you have it on. Girl its WORTH IT!”

But then you turn 30 and you realize that if you can have fashion AND comfort, it’s a win, win. Let me preface my pick by saying that I work for a nonprofit organization. This means that I have a job where I work long hours, am on my feet a lot, and being comfortable is a high priority. But, at the same time I enjoy being fashionable and wearing cute shoes. I introduce to you Dr Scholl’s shoe inserts. Yes, I said it. Dr Scholl’s insert. They are amazing! You can put them in any shoe, flats, boots, heels, wedges, and you can walk for daaays! Try them – I dare you. No one knows and your feet will thank you. Below is a picture of the ones I have. I bought them last weekend, put them in my ballet flats and now want to buy a pair for all of my shoes. They feel like you are walking on a squishy cloud.

ForHer_ComfortInsoles_large_tcm67-48469I hope you purchase them, use them, and love them as much as me!
