Having a moment: Lips

Marsala, which was a huge color for fall and winter, is hear to stay for spring!! Yay!! I love when items can be versatile and used in different seasons!

As we shared in another post there are several “it” colors for spring. But, thee marsala we grew to know and love in the winter has been toned down a bit for spring. This isn’t really surprising if you think about it, right? All spring colors are a little softer…think Easter eggs!

This morning I had a revelation. While some clothing and makeup items that we purchased for winter need to stay in our winter wardrobe, others can be tweaked and transitioned into spring. This revelation leads me to my makeup Monday post…the perfect spring lip!

Two lip shades that were popular for fall and winter were the burgundy lip and the pale lip. Both trends were awesome and I enjoyed them at different times and places. Chances are you have a lip gloss, chap stick, or lip stick in both colors still laying around. While it’s fun to wear different color lipsticks, it’s hard to go through an entire container of one color. And when you have so many half used containers lying around, who wants to purchase another one just because it’s in for spring.  SO, why not combine two colors you already have and use them to create the “it” lip shade for spring…a toned down marsala…or what we can also call plum.

I applied a light coat of my burgundy lip stick and then put my pale shade on top and rubbed them together…voila! I had a new fun color that I didn’t have to go and purchase! I felt creative, resourceful, and economic AND accomplished that all on a Monday morning! Woohoo!

Here are the two colors on my hand. The top is my pale shade, the bottom is my burgundy shade, and the middle are the two mixed together.

plum hand

And here I am wearing the two…I am in love.

Excuse the lighting. It was taken on my phone and it was pretty early. But hopefully you get the point!

Now this is good news for people who have both lip shades already. If you don’t have them, run out to your closest CVS and grab an NYX lip shade in plum. I don’t think you can ever go wrong with them! Or, as Christine wrote about in a previous post, Essence is a great brand to try new shades in as well!

For those readers who don’t care about the “it” color for spring, use this method and create a whole new shade just for you. Take two different colors, combine them together and show us what you got!!

Madison Tech Bag!

Hi all! It’s fashion Wednesday and I thought I would give a quick review on my new bag by Stella & dot.  If you missed my last post on this great accessory company check it out here.

Stella & dot has some great jewellery but they also have great bags! I decided to go with the Madison Tech bag; IMG_0478

I LOVE this bag.  Yes its meant for all my tech gadgets like laptops and iPads, but I never actually carry those things around so I use it for an everyday bag.  This bag is pretty large (think brief case) and has side zipper panels that can make it even bigger!  Its extremely durable and structured which in my opinion makes it great for easily grabbing things like your wallet.  Its made of textured vegan leather material (YAAY)!! It’s interior is even made of spill resistant material which makes it great for all those beauty lovers like me (for when our lipstick lids fall off it can be easily cleaned).   It has shorter handles that are attached to the bag but also come with a long adjustable strap.  Its sells on the website for 168$ which can seem a little pricey at first but its a fraction of the price compared to some designer bags!

Over all this is a fabulous every day bag!  Great for carrying around your laptop or giant makeup bag.  So far mine is pretty clean (just got it two days ago) but I am working on filling it up 😉 100 more lipsticks, hand creams and tweezers to go!

Let me know what you think about this bag if you have one.  Also, there is another cute colour available called Poppy! Great for the spring and summer 🙂 Both the colours available are shown below (Poppy and Black/Cream (found on

Hope everyone has a fabolous wednesday! Let me know what bags you are loving right now 🙂

Pantone Color For Spring

As you may remember Christine posted a fantastic article on Pantone’s color for fall called: Mars-what? Pantone Colour of the year. She did a great job telling us who Pantone is, why they are able to announce the color of the year, and how to wear said color. Please go and read it to refresh your memory or to learn something new!

Although Pantone announces a color of the year, they don’t stop there. They also announce a color of the season! Since fall is behind us and winter is slooooowly coming to a close, we thought it was important to introduce you to the next color, or in this case, set of colors to be on the lookout for. Dont’ fret marsala is still represented…

pantoneAs you can see, almost every color of the rainbow is represented here. However there is one similarity in all the colors. Pantone said it best when they wrote, “This season there is a move toward the cooler and softer side of the color spectrum. An eclectic, ethereal mix of understated brights, pale pastels and nature-like neutrals take center stage as designers draw from daydreams of simpler times. Remembrances of retro delights, folkloric and floral art, and the magical worlds of tropical landscapes restore a sense of well-being as we head into warmer months.”

Wow that sentence itself made me relax. The thought is this… while our culture moves from the perceived sexiness of constantly being “on the go” to actually appreciating the times where we can be unplugged, in a quiet space basking in the beauty of nature, our clothes will be representing that that movement as well!

So while you start to think about your Spring wardrobe and as our stores are transitioning from winter to spring clothes, take a look at these colors and think about the new pieces you want to include in your closet. And remember Christine’s simple tip: if your budget won’t let you buy a new look every season, grab a nail polish and display your stylish self on your fingers!

The Oscars

The Oscars…such a classy event. But what else would we expect from an event whose consolation prizes are worth more than $100,000? An award would be nice, but so would diamond jewelry, a free vacation, and a bike delivered to my house.

Seriously though, I was watching all the Hollywood stars in their ball gowns looking so amazing and as I was sitting on my couch (in my pajamas) I felt like I needed to have some sort of dress on…or at least a glass of champage. Champagne makes any event classy, am I right?  But I had neither. I guess there’s always next year!

As my top pick Tuesday post I wanted to give a shout out to all the beautiful dresses and the two tuxes I just LOVED. Let’s acknowledge these women who spent all day getting ready and all week being hungry just to look good in a dress. I also want to acknowledge these two men for being incredibly good looking and more than likely taking less than an hour to get ready.

Tom’s- Surprise, these shoes are really cute!

We all love Tom’s right? I mean who wouldn’t? You buy a shoe and they give a shoe!  They are comfy, cute and have tons of options! Here is the classic Tom that we have all come to love;BLACKWOVENDIAMONDWOMENCLASSIC-10004916-S-218x153_RetouchTom’s has come a long way since they first started creating shoes and today they are one of my favourite brands for cute shoes!  There are 3 styles I particularly love.  I currently own one style and let me tell you, these shoes are crazy comfy.  I can wear them all day at work (Bridal Boutique) with no issues at all.  They are cute and extremely durable.  I picked these three styles for you because I thought they covered all seasons and could be interchanged seasonly (except for the summer shoes of course).

There are 3 styles shown here with a few different colour options.  The Desert Wedge, the Desert Wedge High, and the new Majorca Peep Toe.  I love all the colour options they offer for each style.  I currently own the Desert Wedge in a Cheeta print.  I love that I can count on these shoes not only to be stylish and cute but also comfortable.  They range in price but be prepared to spend around a 100$.  Don’t forget that they are still toms and when you buy a pair, you also give a pair 🙂

Check out for all the styles and colours they have!

Let me know if you own any of these styles and what you think! I can’t wait to get my hands on those peep toes!!!!

The power of “the blaze”

Hi, my name is Jaclyn Pinkham and I have a confession. I am OBSESSED with blazers.

My obsession started years ago on my 26th birthday when I bought a black blazer to
wear with my birthday outfit. The purchase was primarily out of necessity. My birthday is in November so it is COLD. I knew I would be walking around outside, in and out of different places and did not want to wear a winter coat. I wanted something that would be cute but also keep me warm so I bought a blazer. Little did I know that that wouldn’t be the end of it. I paired my new “find” with a cute little top, a pair of black skinny jeans, some ballet flats, and bam, I had my favorite birthday outfit.

Since then my obsession has continued to grow. Today I have around 12 blazers of all different colors and patterns.

So you ask yourself:

Why are blazers so wonderful?: For starters they are very versatile. Meaning that you can wear them with different outfits for different occasions. I introduced my friend Melissa to the power of blazers and her direct quote is this, “blazers have transformed my wardrobe“. You can wear them to work, out on the town, or for a fun day with your friends.

For example the black blazer I bought for my birthday I later wore to work paired with black slacks and another more professional top.

Here are great pictures for a ‘professional look’.

Now obviously these blazers are different colors and have different sleeves than my black blazer; but they serve as great examples of what I’m referring to as a more ‘professional look’.

**Helpful tip- if you are going for the most versatile blazer, one you can wear on many different occasions and with many different looks, buy one that hits you mid-hip and has long sleeves. You can ALWAYS roll or push the sleeves up if you choose too. This is helpful to me because, well, I’m on a budget so I have to get the most bang for my buck.

Here are great examples of ways to use blazers for a “night out on the town” look:

And examples of a “casual/day” look:

Where should I start?: My recommendation is to start with neutral and solid colors. Black, brown, white, grey, or navy blue. Once you find those start venturing out with red, pink, green, mint, yellow…seriously the options are endless. Then when you get more adventurous begin buying patterns or ones with different textures i.e. linen/leather/suede.

What style should I be looking for?: To get the most bang for your buck get a blazer that hits you mid-hip and has full length sleeves. I always go for a single button (so NO double vested) more structured look. Basically one that has a shape. If your blazer has structure and shape it gives your body structure and shape. 🙂 Notice in all the pictures above the blazers curve in a little around the waist and the shoulders are a little pointy. Not 80’s shoulder pad pointy but a nice straight line at the top of the shoulder.

**side note: they do make peplum and puffy shoulder pad blazers…stay clear of those for starters.

Where should I begin looking?  ALL of my blazers have been purchased for a very great price. The black blazer I bought was found at Sears. Yes, that’s correct. Sears. I also have found others at Target, J.C. Pennies, T.J. Maxx, and thrift stores! Buying them for a good deal helps you ease into the blazer world, figure out what you like the most, and move on from there.

Alright, that’s it! I hope you enjoy my obsession as much as I do! Share your tips in the comments!
