D.I.Y Closet Doors

Welcome to Tips and Tricks Thursdays!  I thought I would attempt to post a D.I.Y.  As some of you know my house is under construction.  Everywhere I look there is something that is either changing or needs to be changed.  The one room that  seems to be making progress is the bedroom.  Little things have made it the room I am beginning to love!  I thought I would share this easy fun project with you all today.

Quite a few (older) houses out there have normal closets (not a beautiful walk-in closet we all like on Pinterest).  A lot of these closets have bi-fold doors.  Although bi-folds can be handy if you don’t have any space in front of the closet, they can date the look of the room in my opinion.   They can also limit the space you have on either side of your closet and of course the back of your (bi-fold) door.  I had not even thought about our bi-fold doors until one day my boyfriend looked at me and said, I am going to make those into real doors.  So off he went and in about 30 minutes or so we had “real” doors on our side by side closets.

Here is a step by step guide on how to get your very own bi-fold doors;

IMG_0337This is what we started with.  Two closets side by side (please ignore the mess)

Step 1

Un-hook the inner pin from the track on each door. (should be easy to do).  Remove the pin at the top of each closet door (you may need a screw driver to pry these out).  At this point your bi-folds should just be swinging loose.

Step 2

Cut (6 altogether) pieces of wood the exact width of each door (1×2’s are ideal but 1×3’s or 1×4’s will work).  We used 3 pieces of wood per door .  On the back of each piece,  apply wood glue.  Make sure you don’t get to close to the edges as it might squish out when you place it on the door.

Using a finishing nailer (or a hammer and nails) attach each piece of wood with 8 to 12 nails.  We attached 1 at the top, another in the middle and the last on at the bottom.

Should look something like this once attached.  And LOOK! Its so easy even I can do it 🙂

Once all 6 pieces of wood are glued and nailed to the back of the door you can attach the double magnet clasps.  Because of the track used for bi-folds you need to attach a spacer (piece of wood) so you can fasten your magnet clasps onto.  Just screw or nail a 2×2 piece of wood into the frame behind the track.  Once that is in place you can attach the magnet clasps right onto it.  Just make sure to line up your magnets with the plate you will attach onto the back corners of your doors.

These clasps come with their own hardware and can just be easily attached with hand tools.

Step 5

Using a level and tape measure mark the new positions for the knob holes.  Once marked use a drill to create your new holes.  Fill the old holes with wood fill and relocate your exciting hardware.

Admire your amazing new doors!  This is the time you get to envision all the different design possibilities.  Just remember these doors can not hold a huge amount of weight.  If you are planning to attach a mirror on the back of the door make sure its a light one.

I plan to paint the inside including the wood pieces to camoflague  everything together.

Now all I need is to make these doors look beautiful! Let me know if you guys have any ideas of what I can do!  Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions.

Happy DIY’ing!

The Real Girl on Fire-Lupita Nyong’o

Welcome to Who, What, Wear Wednesdays!

If Hollywood was the Hunger Games, than Lupita Nyong’o is the Girl on Fire.  2014 was an epic year for her and she showed up to every single major Award show looking beyond beautiful.  More impressively, in 2015, she is still on top of her fashion game.  I mean- blow your fashion mind!!!  There is nothing more I can say other than show you.   Is it just me, or does every dress get better and better??  I can NOT WAIT to see her 2015 Academy Award dress.  If at the end of it all, she does a twirl and busts out giant wings… I won’t be surprised.

Here is Lupita Nyong’o, our Hollywood Champion.

Stella & Dot

FullSizeRenderAs promised today’s Who, What, Wear is about Stella & Dot. To tell everyone the truth, I am not really a jewellery girl. Its not that I don’t like it or even love it. I just have not found my jewellery niche…until now. If you don’t know what Stella & Dot is, its an accessory line sold by independent stylists. And let me tell you, it is CUTE! Like I mean, really cute. They have a wide variety of accessories from chunky statement pieces to sleek simple items. Anyone looking to find their ‘Jewellery style’ is going to delight in the fact that Stella & Dot has it all. Even more exciting, you can shop from the comfort of your home! No running around to different stores looking for something cute to match your new outfit- Its all in a perfectly beautiful magazine (also known as a catalogue). I love this because I can take my time to really look at what items I want. If you don’t have a catalogue from an independent stylist than check out their website here (and no, I do not sell Stella & Dot, I just like it this much). So here is where you guys come in.  I need help deciding what to pick!  I have settled on the Sutton necklace which is a gorgeous necklace that you can wear 5 different ways (another reason why Stella & Dot is amaze-balls).  They have five different options;

These necklaces can be worn short, long, and also broken apart to wear single parts.  If it was not already heard enough to pick which necklace to choose now I have to choose a colour scheme!  These retail from 138$ to 188$ (Canadian Dollars).  At first it seemed like a lot of money, but when I think if I can wear this necklace 5 different ways, than it is 28$ per necklace which is totally affordable!  I honestly can’t get enough of this brand and am so happy I found it! Leave comments below and tell me which necklace you think I should pick, and what you guys think about Stella & Dot!  Have a wonderful Wednesday and get accessorizing 🙂 -Love Chris

Introducing Makeup Mondays!!!

Today is MONDAY MAKEUP DAY!!!!  Who is excited?!?!?! Anyways, Mondays will be my domain and I think this may be the perfect way to start these mondays because in one sentence it describes why this day will now be so spectacular!! Hope you enjoy!

“The pursuit of truth and beauty is a sphere of activity in which we are permitted to remain children all our lives.”

Albert Einstein

I love the sound of this quote.  It captures the true idea behind why I love the beauty industry so much.  I am sure some people see it as superficial and well… “a first world problem” and in some sense I agree.  However, to find an outlet where there is a “sphere of activity in which we are permitted to remain children” is an absolute dream, and frankly, I never plan to leave 🙂
