Pantone colour of the year is…. MARSALA. Mars-what? I didn’t even know this was an actual colour. And to tell everyone the truth, before last year I was not even aware that there was a colour of the year. I lived in blissful ignorance of this “sacred colour” that we all have to worship for an entire year of our lives. And now I’m suppose to incorporate it into my every day life? Well… I better get on my game… and then I thought, why don’t we all do this together!
First off I wanted to get some information on what the heck Pantone was in the first place. So I went to the “trusted” internet and discovered its a company (of course it is). Basically, from what I understand, they made the best technology/guide to matching colours. Now all sorts of people use it from printers to designers. Pantone as a company can pretty much be summed up as the masters of all colour. When you think about it colour is a major part of our lives, we use it, wear it and even eat it! How many times have you heard Rachael Ray say “just adds a little pop of colour”? Pantone themselves put it in perspective to me here. As Pantone says “colour has always been an integral part of how culture expresses the attitudes and emotions of the times”. When you really digest that sentence, all of a sudden “mars-what?” turns into Marsala… THE Pantone colour of the YEAR! Now I am excited!!
How can I actually use this though? Well for the average girl fashion is good way to use it. Lets face it… we are not about to redecorate our houses every single year just to keep up with Pantone. However, I am not about to buy a new wardrobe every year either. So I suppose we have to get creative on a budget. Personally I have to think about what I have in my wardrobe and what I need. So for example, I need a fall coat… I have known this for about 2 years now and just keep putting it off. What better way to incorporate the colour of the year than into something I actually need!?! To me Marsala is a muted burgundy… and I already love burgundy (and wine) so Marsala is right up my ally. For me a coat like this would be great to add to my wardrobe;
If you can think about what you actually need and look for it in this great colour than we are not only being fashionable we are being financially responsible! And luckily, this colour is timeless (sort of) and will last for at least a few years. Whatever you choose, whether it be a scarf or a new pair of boots, don’t buy it because Pantone said so; buy it because you needed it, and you just so happen to take Pantone’s advice at the same time.
Last but not least, if you don’t need any more clothes, hand bags, or shoes…. don’t forget about your nails!! That is one quick and cheap way to keep up with Pantone!.
Hope everyone enjoys this colour this year! And hey!, if you hate it… there is always next year 🙂
ps. I’m Canadian, I am NOT spelling “color” incorrectly 🙂
